I contributed this article to the summer issue of Mercedes-Benz Club Canada‘s magazine. This is a reprint. I’m dreaming! Dreaming of hopping into a gleaming white sport Coupe, with a few ponies under the hood, tooling through south of France wine country. In my fantasy, I’m negotiating winding roads through the dazzling countryside along theContinue reading “Off to Wine Country in a Mercedes sport coupe”
Happy Crowd at PondView The Baroness and I had the good fortune to attend the PondView Harvest party this past weekend. Best fun we’ve had in Niagara all year. 2010 Vieni Aglianico Reserve, Niagara. A highly interesting wine made from this grape that originates in Campania, Italy. Fun notes of blackberries, sandalwood and white pepper. Vieni is also a distillery. Cool. Enjoying it now withThe Baroness, Ashley, and Chris Bacon at his home!
Picture yourself sitting by the fireside on a rainy night in an English country manor sipping a beautiful red wine. “What is this gorgeous wine?” you ask your host, “it’s almost port-like in its rich body and flavours.” With distinctive British pronunciation, the host declares it’s a new discovery from Niagara. 2010 Family TreeContinue reading “’10 Family Tree Red by Henry of Pelham – evokes a wine to sip in an English country manor …”

Rich flavours of currants, dark chocolate, black berries, and tobacco,Continue reading “The Foreign Affair Winery ‘The Conspiracy’ Cabernet Sauvignon, ’10. Made in the ripasso method …”
The ritual dates back to the time of the Huszars. A theatrical way to open a bottle of Sparkling wine. Here he does it on a bottle of Valdivieso sparkling (blanc de blanc). He is planning to break the world record soon! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TK4HrEPhjIE
There are nice things happening at Peninsula Ridge, Beamsville, Ontario. New winemaker. Fresh ideas. And the 06 Vintners Private Reserve Merlot. A gorgeous wine. Eyes closed, and I could have guessed a $50 bottle of 3rd growth Bordeaux, perhaps a St. Emilion.
Aromas of Apricot jam and delicate candied fruit. Sweet, nice acidity, and easy to enjoy. This delicate fruit wine has an elegant finish. Would pair well with white pasta or game fowl. $10 for 500 ml. Available only from the winery (in person, by phone, or web order).
