A dark and expressive wine with distinct aromas and flavours of dark chocolate, caramel macchiato, black tea and espresso. Very extracted. Tons of tannins. A beautiful example of a Spanish barrel-aged Tinto Fino (same as Tempranillo).

This affordable French wine is dark with a mature nose of clove, dusty earth, and white pepper. Its enticing flavours included red berries, cassis, tangerine, and blueberry compote with smokey components and minerality. It has astounding complexity that goes on and on. The finish exhibited vegetal qualities of asparagus and black olive. This wine isContinue reading “Domaine Des Haut Chassis, Croze Hermitage 2007 ($18 US) RATING: 92”
Not in stores. Deep red colour with big red fruit nose. Australian in character yet with considerable old world influence from the French winemaker there. More beautifully balanced and complex than most Aussie Shiraz, with well-hidden tannins and lovely fruit complexity. This one is full of lovely red fruit flavours with raspberry, blackberry and aContinue reading “Hoo Roo Creek Australian Shiraz 2006 – $13.95”
Viewpointe 2005 Cab Merlot. Hard to believe, lots still available! Not in LCBO. Available from me or from the winery (same price of course). Classic Bordeaux style. Cassis, black cherry, black currant, spice, dark chocolate, leather. Wow, this is a nice wine. Very approachable and easy to enjoy. A “premium” type of wine. Nice price.

Can cellar for 5 years. FermentedContinue reading “Andert Gewürztraminer 2008”
Like a smaller Versailles, this is one of the most beautiful and historic palaces in Europe. Just visited it with Lisa and Ashley. Culture, history and splendor.
Wow, you can have a BEER here. This location is across from the Opera and beside Hotel Sacher.
An astoundingly popular varietal, this wine is less austere than many PGs. It displays enjoyable fruity tones of fresh, ripe honeydew melon, smoky pear and a hint of apple on a crisp finish. Enjoyed it at Allens Restaurant on Danforth in Toronto. My favourite English Pub.
I just hosted Gerhard Wohlmuth Jr on his first trip to Canada. We visited potential restaurant clients and set up distribution in Ontario. The attraction to me is that these wines are exceptionally clean and elegant. They will be an excellent addition to the North American market. Ontario agent: http://www.carriagetradewines.com/
