Cadoucos Memoriam Reserva 2007 – from Portugal, this wine is monumental! 55% Touriga Nacional, 45% Syrah. Aged 12 months in new French oak barrels and 6 months in the bottle. Intense purple, with a bouquet of black and red berries, black licorice, fresh herbs, and a hint of chocolate in a superbly structured and elegant finish.
Top International sommelier Zoltan Szabo told me a while back that several of the Cadoucos wines were the most impressive among the more than 500 that he recently judged in competition. I tasted them while in Portugal and was so impressed, that I arranged a special trip to visit the winery the following year (Spring 2011).
Memoriam is expected to retail for about $29.95 in Canada and in the mid 20’s in the US. The other wines in the range are Harmony (low $20’s) and aptly named Cadoucos (estimate: $17 in Canada and under $15 in the US). More about the others to come, as soon as we let our euphoria settle enough for our typing paws to stop shaking from excitement. – The Wine Baron.
